From Performance To People
Careers are funny things. Some people know what they want to be by the time they’re six years old and never stop pushing towards that goal. But for others, career paths come with a few surprise twists and turns. Passion for a new career can be discovered in the strangest places.
Take, for instance, Tonya Carter. After serving as an Army engineer, she was delighted when she landed an engineering job at General Motors. Her dream career was just taking off when she discovered another exciting new opportunity right under her nose: human resource management.
It was a major shift but she knew in her gut this was the right move for her and GM also saw her potential to grow in this new field. In her flourishing new career, Tonya is not only assisting GM Design employees. She is also inspiring the next generation of designers. Since taking the HR (Human Resources) job, Tonya has participated in several programs aimed at encouraging high school students to consider automotive design -- most notably GM’s You Make a Difference Program.
