Ms. Martinez, We Want You

Ester Martinez knows what it’s like to be unsure of what career to pursue. She also knows that sometimes to overcome that uncertainty you need to look for help and have the fortitude to ask for it -- which she did twelve years ago.

Looking for a new direction, Martinez applied for an internship with Focus: HOPE, a non-profit organization located in Detroit, and completed the program in eight months. Almost immediately after that internship, Martinez was unexpectedly offered the chance to work for GM in its Design Center.

Now, eleven years later, she no longer has career doubts. She is a full-fledged studio design engineer; has been an integral part of the design team for the Chevy Malibu; is completing her Master’s degree; and is proud to tell her two daughters that “Yes, you can.”
