2000, The Oldsmobile Brand Retires

After a review of the effectiveness and potential of its complete line of automotive brands, GM announced plans to phase out the Oldsmobile brand in December 2000. In the photo, the last Oldsmobile (an Alero model) rolls off the assembly line on 2004-April-29.

For 2004, Olds sold only Aleros, Bravadas, and Silhouettes. The last 500 units of each model rolled out with special Collector Edition wheels, badging and interior trim. The very last Oldsmobile, a black Alero, featured the signatures of the plant employees on the inside of the hood. It was immediately displayed at the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing, the city where the story had begun 106 years before.
