General Motors Export Company was established in New York to centralize and coordinate all North American exports under a single staff, the first consolidation of staffs and functions since the company’s founding. With initial staff of just three people and capital of $10,000, worldwide vehicle exports increased from 1,200 units in 1912 to 3,000 the following year.

More than 40 years after the founding of the General Motors Export Company, GM published this map depicting the locations of all of its operations outside of the continental United States and Canada for the 1955 Powerama exhibition in Chicago.
