Wilmington Assembly groundbreaking - 1945
The Wilmington Assembly Plant, located in the state of Delaware, was to begin production in 1947 as a Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac Plant. The attached newsreel is the original footage from the 1945 ground-breaking ceremonies. Those wielding the shovel include: Walter Bacon (Governor of Delaware), Thomas Hurlahee (Mayor of Wilmington), Louis C. Gode (Vice President of GM and General Manager of the Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac Assembly Division) and Robert E. Haylers (Manager of the new GM Wilmington Plant).
