Toluca Regional Engineering Expansion Group
During the late 1990s the corporation went Global. Due to this, GM Mexico joined the corporate strategy of the Regional Engineering Centers.
During 1997, I joined GM Mexico as part of the so called Group 10 of Expansion Group. It was named Expansion because at that time, GMM only dealt with product engineering for the local market, and due to this "expansion" we were hired at a steady pace of 15 engineers every 6 weeks or so.
We were trained to be part of Design Engineers, who dealt with all the DRE stuff and also had unigraphics capabilities for doing our own designs and drawings.
As part of the training program we were part of some SMTs in the GM North American technical center. I was assigned to the body structures lowers SMT at the Saturn Engineering Building at John R and 12 Mile Road. During that year I supported programs and designed UG parts as my on the job training was completed. Finally, in January 1999, I got my permanent contract with GM and spent 4 months understanding the nuts and bolts of the FEA analysis.
Once completed, we started doing programs like MCEs and CPS' as part as our DRE duties.
It's been a long time since then, but I feel happiest of all about what I have learned over the years, all the people I worked with and the great feeling of seeing the product you work for rolling down the line.
From the 2002 Saturn VUE to the 2008 Express van, from Ramos Arizpe to Wentzville, seeing that vehicle being driven into the streets is the most rewarding experience of my GM Career.
