Three Generations
My Grandfather passed away before I was even born in 1947. My Father passed away in 2005. I'm not planning on going soon. One thing that has been constant in all our lives is GM. You see, I'm 3rd generation GM. My grandfather was a tool sharpener at Fisher Body in Pontiac. My father was educated at General Motors Institute (GMI) and worked for 30 years at the Research Labs in Warren (Tech. Center). I'm into my 10th year at SPO. The GM products I've seen over the years! One of my first cars was a Chevy Vega. I remember my mothers '57 Chevy Bel Air, what a car, who knew it would be such an icon. The '67 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup that we hauled a camper on is now such a collectable, I wish I had that one. My brothers '74 Le Mans sport coupe with the louvres on the rear windows. He bought that when he got out of the Army. The 70 something 1/2 ton Chevy Truck with a 454 in it. Man, did that truck get up and move. I beat a few cars off the line with that truck and they were never happy. My wife's Cavalier and my '74 Firebird. My '81 Chevy Truck and my 2000 GMC Sierra.
Through all the years GM has had a neat arrangement with my family. We work and they pay us. My wife's whole family came from Pittsburgh to work for GM. My Aunts and Uncles, cousins and relatives I don't know or remember have all worked for GM. The cars and trucks that we have owned and seen in the generations have been amazing. GM has been a part of my whole life and I can see that it will be part of our future, too. The new products coming out have excited my family. From the new Camaro (Rick Wagoner, can I get one soon please?) to the Volt. I'd like to test a Volt for my commute to and from work.
I look forward to another 20 years at GM and await the changes and challenges the future holds for my family and our partner in life....GM.
