Reliance
One of the industry's earliest truck builders, Reliance Motor Truck Company was founded in Detroit, MI, in 1902 and built its first truck in 1903. It was purchased by General Motors in 1909 along with the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, another early Detroit-based truck builder. Both Reliance and Rapid became part of the newly formed General Motors Truck Company (GMC) in 1912. Their original names and brands were dropped the following year and replaced by the GMC brand and logo.
