My Start at Fisher Body
As I recall, I had just gotten out the U.S. Navy and had a hard time finding a job. The Pittsburgh plant was being built and I went to apply for a job. A Mr. Mack was the personnel man and he told me he had hundreds of applications for jobs at that plant. I went home a little discouraged and the phone rang and I was asked if I could start that evening. Of course I said yes. I worked seven days a week from then until Christmas Eve. The overtime pay was enough for me to buy my first house.
After a series of jobs at that plant, I was transferred to the General Office in Warren Michigan, where I was made a Senior Buyer in charge, and I spent a total of 36 years with Fisher Body and not one ounce of sorrow. GM was and is good to me and my family.
I retired in June of 1986 and now live a happy and warm life in Florida.
Thanks, GM.
