My GM Story
My story begins when I was 5 years old. This was 1947. Across the street from us lived a suprintendent at the B-O-P Kansas City Assembly Plant. I always admired his two new cars, a Buick and Olds usually. I walked by his house to kindergarten and his dog scared me to death. Didn't think more about it until 1960 when my mother asked if I might be interested in going to an Engineering school with GM instead of the University of Kansas, as an architectual student. I was immediatelly interested and did all the requirements to get into GMI. I was selected as one of 4 people from Kansas City that year.
During the summer I drove a 1958 Corvette that a dentist owned in Leawood, Kansas. I went home and told my Dad I had to have that car. It was $2,400 - used. He said you can buy the car or go to college, it's your choice. After much thought, I decided on college, instead. But I really wanted that car. It was white, with a red interior and a 270 four speed. It snapped my neck when we drove it!
I waited 5 years to get my first Corvette, a brand new red 1963 Roadster a year before graduation from GMI. I have enjoyed 39 wonderful years with GM, retiring in 1999 with 3 Corvettes under my wing and a new one every year. Don't know how long this can go on. I'm an NCRS Judge in KC now and very active with Corvettes in KC and Naples, Florida during the winter.
Hope this lasts as the GM needle is fully in me.
