My First Bel-Air Hardtop
My first car was a 1956 Chevrolet Bel-Air Hardtop. I had hired in at Delco-Remy in Anderson, Indiana in 1953, after graduating high school. I worked and saved my money while living at home. I paid $1,000 down on the price of the car, which was $2,700. I was so proud of it! It was black and light green with a Continental Kit on the trunk. A race car fellow in town said, "It is the sharpest car in town." I was thrilled beyond words. I have never seen another like it, I have looked off and on throughout the years since. I would love to see that car again. I did get a photo from GM PhotoStore of the car with that color, but no kit on the trunk. The cars now are not "sharp" like they were in the old days.
I worked for GM for over 30 years, I thank them and the Union for my good retirement and benefits.
Thanks for the memories.
