My Dad Joined Ternstedt in 1928
I was there
Jacob Mathis, my Dad, left a small town in Indiana in 1928 to go to work in Detroit for Ternstedt. Although he only had an 8th grade education, he eventually became a superintendent and even plant supervisor when the night supervisor was ill. I have been told that he was always willing to listen to the complaints of others albeit may not agree, but would listen. In 1953, he was transferred to the Flint plant just before the Beecher Tornado hit. He never complained about his work and even was able to have a job during "The Great Depression".
My husband, brother and uncle all also worked for Ternstedt so Dad must have thought it a good place to work.
