Lansing Fisher Body
Lansing, Michigan is where I started my career at GM in 1963. I had a cousin who worked at the plant and called me up and asked if I wanted a job in Lansing. I said yes, I would like to come there so I jumped on a bus and left Edenborn, Pennsylvania, in April of 1963. I had never been to Lansing before then. After a 10 hr bus ride, I arrived.
The next day, I went to the shop and put in an application and they asked if I wanted to go work that night, so I said yes. I was put on the trim line in Building 3. I asked my foreman, who was Joe Pizzo, where I could catch a bus to go home that night. He told me buses didn't run that late, but he would find me a ride home. Just about quitting time he introduced me to a fella named Don Cook, whom I rode with for several months until I got my own car.
That day started my Fisher Body career of thirty years. I retired in 1993 and am now living in Panama City, Florida.
I guess everyone has a story of their first day at GM. that was mine.
