HQ manufacture at Pagewood
From Carl Holden
In 1972 (age 20) I worked at the Holden Pagewood (Sydney NSW) assembly plant, making HQ sedans, Statesman's, upgraded Statesman's for export - badged Chevrolet.
I understood I was the only person with the surname "Holden" working at the plant. An old friend of mine would come down from "front office" every day to see how I was getting on.
After my first half day they decided to train me as an "Inspector".
The experience of being in a production line environment with everyone inter-dependent on everyone and everything else "working together" has remained with me to this day.
HQ History
From my research, the Holden Kingswood HQ was made between July 1971 and 1974. 495,650 were built, following four years of design and development.
Archived HQ Holden commercials can be viewed here (note: Australia only had Black and White TV then)
