GM Thru and Thru
My first vehicle when I was 18 years old was a 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible. From that moment on the love affair continued as I acquired a 1962 Chevy Impala and then a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Big Block Turbo Hydro. But, then the children came and the cars changed. I then had a 1972 two-door Chevy Nova, then a 1975 Chevy Impala followed by a 1982 Pontiac. Over those years, I owned a 1980 Camaro and a 1978 2 + 2 Pontiac and then began a job at General Motors Canada in St. Catharines, where I purchased my first new vehicle - a 1986 Chevy Astro minivan. What a great vehicle it was while the boys were going through sports teams and getting older. The minvan was the best vehicle for roominess and fuel economy. Over the years, I owned several, changing sometimes to the GMC Safari vans as well. I would still have bought one of these great vans again today. They are great for towing and whatever you need it to do. But a bright move by GM not to make these anymore was quite a blow. I couldn't figure why, since there was still a great demand for these vehicles. Why would GM stop making them? Please bring back these rear wheel drive vehicles and get back much needed market share. They would definitely sell. I now have a Pontiac Montana, which I enjoy very much. But, I still miss my Astro.
I am now early retired from GM and am doing quite well, but I miss the guys and the times we all had at work - some good and some not so good. GM always promised to keep us informed, but really lacked a lot of compassion not telling us everything about this business. Please bring back the good sellers and let your people know what is happening at GM and maybe things would be a lot better.
Still A Proud GM owner after all this.
