Chevrolets first NHRA Eliminator victory came at the 1959 U.S. Nationals in Detroit, where Harold Ramsey won the Stock Eliminator title. In 1961, Jack Chrisman scored Chevrolets first Top Eliminator victory (NHRA’s most prestigious class) at the inaugural Winternationals with a dragster powered with twin Chevrolet engines. Chevrolet has won 16 NHRA Manufacturers Cups, one of the longest and most enduring standards of racing excellence, the most of any manufacturer in the sport.
Pontiac won its first national event title when Butch Leal won the Pro Stock class at the 1985 Southern Nationals in Atlanta. Jack Chrisman won the Top Eliminator crown (the largest prize in drag racing) at the 1962 NHRA Nationals in Indianapolis with a Pontiac powered dragster. Pontiac has 158 victories in NHRA Pro Stock competition; the most wins by any manufacturer in the history of the sport and has won 10 NHRA Manufacturers Cups.
Oldsmobile has won the Manufacturers Cups a total of 14 times, the first in 1971 and the last in 1995.
