Acquired by GM in 1919, Frigidaire was responsible for the development and production of the first electric refrigerator and the first room air conditioner. The Frigidaire brand dominated the home appliance business for decades. GM sold the brand and its operations to White Consolidated Industries in 1979 to concentrate its resources more on core automotive operations. It was sold again to AB Electrolux, based in Sweden, in 1986.
