Fighting Pollution - An Old Story at GM
I joined the Detroit Diesel Division of General Motors in the fall of 1967, and began working in the Sales Promotion Department. Soon after I arrived, I was asked by the department manager, Jack Kelly to come up with some ideas for a low emissions Clean Injector for the Detroit Diesel engines. The program was eventually called Put An Arm On Pollution. This program was directed to the older trucks that were on the road and polluting the air.
I live in Texas now. Most of the people I talk to think GM isn't "Green Thinking." I know for a fact that GM was on top of the pollution issue 40 years ago - and like other Americans, glad we could contribute to cleaner air for all of us. (I wish I had a bumper sticker or counter mat - I don't).
