E85 Announcement
"....Even with more ethanol-capable vehicles and more fuel stations, this isn't going to work unless we find a better way to make ethanol."
- Rick Wagoner, General Motors CEO
The 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit may be remembered as much for the fuels that will power new vehicles as the vehicles themselves.
Rick Wagoner announced an important venture with Coskata, a biofuel company that seems to have figured out how to make E85 ethanol, a high octane renewabke alternative fuel, out of trash, among other things.
Kjell ac Bergström, Saab Automobile AB Powertrain President and CEO discussed renewable fuels, in particular the Saab BioPower family and the Saab 9-4X BioPower, a bioethanol (E85) optimized concept crossover is displayed. Robert Jablonski, Creative Designer of the HUMMER HX concept vehicle introduced the "green" HUMMER HX off-road concept vehicle.
Scott Atherton, American Le Mans Series (ALMS) President and CEO discussed "green racing" and Ed Peper, General Manager of Chevrolet, announced that the Corvette Racing team will run on cellulosic E85 during the 2008 racing season.
