Du Pont, Lammot
Lammot du Pont II was the third person to serve as chairman of the board for the General Motors Corporation. He joined the General Motors board of directors in 1918 and assumed the position of president on February 7, 1929, succeeding his brother, Pierre S. du Pont. He served in this capacity for over eight years until Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. was elected to that position by the board of directors. Du Pont continued to serve on the General Motors board until 1946.
During the time he held the highest position at General Motors, Lammot du Pont also led his family’s business, E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, serving as its president. He later served as chairman of the board for that company from 1940 to 1948.
