Congratulations to Top Cruiser John Delay Jr., and his 1965 Chevy Impala SS Convertible

"....What makes it very special and significant is that the majority of the vehicle owners in this cruise are GM employees and retirees from around the country. We are excited to have them take part in this historic drive."
~ Bill O’Neill, GM executive director of Global Communications Operations

Woodward Avenue has a special spot in the history of GM. Corvettes, GTOs, Camaros, Firebirds, Cadillacs and other GM automotive icons have left an indelible mark on the soul of Michigan’s most legendary pavement. During the 2008 Woodward Dream Cruise, GM celebrated the cars and enthusiasts who drive, restore and treasure the machines that have made the Motor City proud during the past century.

On Saturday, August 16, at 7:30 a.m., more than 100 GM classic and iconic vehicles traveled in parade formation up Woodward Avenue during the GM Century Cruise. Lead by an E85 ethanol powered Corvette Z06 driven by Rick Wagoner, cars and trucks from every era of GM’s history traveled from the foot of Woodward Avenue at the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center and cruised north through the heart of Detroit to the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and its surrounding suburbs. Upon arrival, these vehicles were displayed at three locations: the Chevy Triangle and South Triangle in Birmingham, and the Athens Coney Island in Royal Oak.

From the car that shined the brightest to finding out who got the jump in a stoplight drag race, Woodward Avenue has always been about "bragging rights." As part of the GM Century Cruise, GM added a new twist on Woodward bragging rights and crowned a "Top Cruiser" from the cars and trucks participating in the GM Century Cruise.

Each cruiser was assigned a parade position number and this was displayed on a window cling for each vehicle. Fans then voted for their favorite vehicle by texting.

Congratulations to Top Cruiser John Delay Jr., and his 1965 Chevy Impala SS Convertible. John’s Impala beat out all of the other cars and trucks in the voting for the Top Cruiser in the GM Century Cruise Parade, and took home the honors by receiving the most text message votes.
