Co-ops
During my career at GM I became involved in the recruitment and development of GM design employees. We selected co op students from various school but primarily Macomb Comm. College since they had the best design curriculum. These students / employees rotated through a series of work assignments for six momnths and went to school the other six months.
We developed very good employees who later became design engineers or went on with university studies and moved into management and supervision. It was a great program and I was able to have quite a bit of input into the selection and training. The program expanded to train other college students and also started the Tech Academy for select Oakland County high school students. That program also focused on work based training and encouraged the students to go on with College studies. It further gave us degreed employees that are now in the GM or supplier workforce. GM showed a commitment to the community and helped many students in their career selection, gave them work experiences and developed responsible employees. It was a win-win situation for all connected with the programs.--Pontiac3 10:33, 21 March 2008 (MDT)
