A car of superlatives!
My favorite car is my 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible. It retains its original, as-built, specifications. The Sable Black exterior is complemented by the White Convertible Roof and White Sierra Grain Leather Interior and White Accent Striping. The car has been my favorite since I attended the new Cadillac for 1971 preview showing with my Dad as a child. Finally, when it was twenty years old, I wrote to the original owner to express my interest in the car. After thirteen more years, she contacted me to see if I was still interested, as she was buying a new car.
It came with a 500 cubic inch (8.2 Litre) V-8 engine, variable ratio power steering, front-wheel-drive (featuring a completely flat interior floor), automatic level control, disc brakes and a four barrel carburetor. There are all the luxuries one could desire, including: fiber optic lamp monitors, dual remote controlled mirrors, automatic climate control, six-way power seat adjustment, power door locks with automatic seatback releases, a door opener on the rear of the passenger door (for rear seat passengers), tilt & telescopic steering wheel, an AM/FM Radio and dual-note trumpet horns. There are large, one-piece rubber floor mats with the Cadillac crest embossed in white on the black rubber, and the carpet and dash are finished in black. It now has 51,000 original miles. The ride is superbly smooth and performance is quite responsive to the slightest tap of the accelerator or brake pedal. No other vehicle can provide the distinctive view afforded by the long, coffin-nosed, crisply chiseled hood with the stand-up wreath and crest.
This vehicle is one of 6,800 built, the lowest production year for the 1971 through 1976 series of Eldorado Convertibles. Every drive in this car, no matter how routine, is like a parade, since this car draws compliments wherever it appears. It is motoring that simply reflects the special world of Cadillac, "the Standard of the World."
