A Home Away from Home: Delco Battery
Hello. My name is Victoria Bruce. I worked for General Motors for 18 years. I worked for Delco Battery in Olathe, Kansas and I worked for Fairfax, a car plant in Kansas City, Kansas.
Delco Battery in Olathe, Kansas was a battery plant where we made batteries from scratched. The foremen and the people I worked with were family. I got hired in 1973. There were not too many women working there at the time. I was a little nervous, but the guys and the foremen were the greatest. They were not concerned with your race or your gender. The pay was good and lots of overtime if you wanted. The people in the office was also very nice. Delco is no longer there and some have passed on, but it was the greatest. I left because I was having health problems but good memories you never forget. The good old days, nice paychecks, holidays, etc…I could go on and on. It is and always will be missed.
Fairfax was also a nice place to work as well.
