2005 Chevrolet Corvette
Personal story and photograph submitted by owner Richard and Kathleen Gray
for participation in the the 2008 GM Century Cruise
At the age of 16, I bought my first Chevrolet, a 1932 Chevrolet Confederate Cabriolet Convertible. It was purchased for $50.00 from a junk yard in Rhode Island and driven home Michigan. This started a long history of purchasing Chevys. At the age of 33, I purchased a 1973 Corvette Convertible. Due to divorce I was unable to keep either vehicle.
I worked for Chevrolet Engineering through transition to Mid-Lux from 1960 to 1999. I never bought a vehicle other than a Chevy. Now retired and reliving my youth, I promised myself my last Chevy would be another Corvette. My wife also is retired from CEC/Mid-Lux....
GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs. One of these vehicles will be crowned “top cruiser” based on a text voting campaign.
