2004 Chevrolet Nomad Concept

The 2004 Chevrolet Nomad Concept was introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. The Nomad was a two-door, four passenger wagon based on the foundation for the Pontiac Solstice production model. The design was a reminder of the 1954 Nomad concept vehicle with round headlights, gently curving fenders, an original style Corvette grille and a forward sloping B-pillar.
The body was constructed of fiberglass panels fixed to a steel tube frame. The tailgate included a sliding tray, making it easier to load cargo items. The back half of the Nomad’s roof slide off for storage in the garage when you want the functionality of a pickup truck.
The Nomad was rear-wheel drive with independent front and rear suspensions attached to a rigid chassis that used a pair of full-length hydroformed frame rails. To make room for rear-seat riders in its 2+2 configuration, the Nomad rode on a 107-inch wheelbase, 2 inches longer than the Solstice.
A turbocharged, DOHC, front mounted, Ecotec 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine producing 250 horsepower powered the Nomad, which also featured a new Hydra-Matic 5L40-E electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission with finger-operated tap shifting.
