1999 Pontiac Concept GTO

The 1999 Pontiac Concept GTO was launched at the 1999 Detroit North American International Auto Show. Concept GTO was a design study, an exploration of future possibilities.
Concept GTO was a unique car with connections to past GTOs. The side profile hints at the famous “Coke bottle” look introduced on 1966/1967 GTOs and refined with 1968/1969 models. The shape of the rear quarter windows was reminiscent of the 1968/1969 GTOs. A hood-mounted tachometer pod first appeared in 1967. Split grilles were a mainstay, and two hood scoops are a logical extension of the 1971/1972 GTO twin hood scoops. The tapered, taillight/rear deckled treatment distinguished the 1966 GTO. Past and present combined to produce the brilliant, translucent orange with bright gold highlights inspired by the 1969 GTO Judge color. Large 19-inch diameter front wheels, 20-inch rear wheels and ultra-low profile,40-series tires are a world apart from the 14-inch bias ply US Royal red line tires included in the original GTO option package. Concept GTO was equipped with massive disc brake rotors as both a safety and styling feature.
The design of Concept GTO was achieved by using Alias software, which gave designers the ability to transform computer generated designs into foam models quickly and affordably.
Concept GTO was a unique concept car but it had no engine and drive train to power it and was strictly a design concept piece.
