When I was dating my wife, my first car out of high school was a 1955 Plymouth convertible. It was red and white with a white top. When we got married and the kids came along, we got rid of our very loved convertible.
In 1998, kids long gone and we were shopping again for a GM car at our local Chevy dealer, it was a early November morning. As we entered the dealership, we had to walk by all of the Chevrolet Cavalier convertibles as the dealer kept all of them inside. While we were looking at what was being offered in the Chevrolet models, my wife remarked that she would again, love to own one of those shinny convertibles! I said, hey, why not, lets go and you pick one out! My wife had always liked red and white so she went for the red body with a white top. I remarked that our previous convertible had a white top and was hard to keep clean, how about the one with the black top? She agreed so we bought the red car with the white top. Later that day, our salesman drove it out of the show room and my wife got behind the wheel. She asked the salesman, "How do you put the top down?" He did not know, but wondered why she would ask? She said, that it is a convertible and I am going to drive it home with the top down! The salesman opened the operation manual, read off the instructions and down came the top and the heater went on! I told my wife to enjoy the ride and that I would meet her back at home, about a 10 mile drive.
I got home, and no wife or new convertible (this was before cell phones)! After a little while, she showed up; she had taken a ride over to my son's place of work to show it off! He loved it too!
This week, our 1999 Cavalier convertible appeared in its first ever car show, at the GM Tech Center Employee car show. We were thrilled to show it off as it is no longer in production. Out of the 900 cars at the show, this was the only '99 Cavalier convertible! The car has never been driven in the winter, it is garaged and covered. It has only 50k miles on the odometer. I always use Mobil 1 oil, and a new filter at oil change and when not on the road, it is in the garage. We hope to have it forever!!!
