Prior to GM occupancy Ford Motor Company had offices in the RenCen.

The most recognizable part of GM's renovation of the RenCen is the GM logo which covers several stories near the top of the tallest tower. GM also created a glassy new entrance on the waterfront side of the complex. They constructed new walkways on the lower floors near the center of the complex to make it easier for employees to circulate between the different towers. For visitors, GM added the GMWorld display on the first floor to showcase GM vehicles. By 2007, the RenCen also contained a facility where operators answered calls for the OnStar system.
