With Eastern and Central European markets prime for growth after the fall of the Berlin Wall, GM Europe opened a new plant at Eisenach, Germany (formerly part of East Germany). It began building the Opel Vectra in October 1990. At the time, it was the most advanced plant in the General Motors global network and soon became a template for several future plants.
