1989 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Personal story and photograph submitted by owner Jacque Evans - courtesy of the National Corvette Museum website - for participation in the National Corvette Museum 2008 Historic Motorama II.
My 1989 Corvette coupe was purchased in March 1992 from a dealership here in Omaha, Nebraska. The mileage was only 3,000 and to date it has covered another 35,000 miles for a total of 38,000+. This will be the 11th year that I have driven it to Bowling Green and back, so a good number of those miles (16,500 or so) have been to return to its "home".
My interest in and passion for Corvettes goes back to my early childhood. I've previously owned a '65, '76 and '86 as well as my '89 which I intend to keep and pass along to my son (eventually). Other additions are definitely in the future.
My son Joe and I are Lifetime members of the National Corvette Museum and were alternates in the original Motorama. We also represented model year 1989 in the 2003 50th celebration in Nashville. Joe (now 18) accompanied me for both of those events as he will on this Motorama II trip.
I have worked in the field of human resources all of my professional career and currently work as director of employee relations for Mosaic here in Omaha. Joe will begin his college career in August at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. He will be majoring in the sciences (for now) with a goal to attend medical school.
Several good friendships were established from that original “alternates” group and we look forward to seeing them again and making new friends on this, trip too.
When GM celebrates the beginning of its next 100 years on September 16, 2008, 55 Corvettes will be on display outside its World Headquarters at Detroit’s Renaissance Center. The Corvettes are in fact the Historic Motorama II, a caravan from the National Corvette Museum (NCM) which is comprised of one example from each of the 55 years of Corvette production. The caravan will depart from the National Corvette Museum on September 10th with stops along the way. People attending the GMnext Day activities on September 16th will be able to view the Corvettes before and after the official program.
