1987 Chevrolet Corvette Callaway Coupe
Personal story and photograph submitted by owners Scott & Jayna Martin - courtesy of the National Corvette Museum website - for participation in the National Corvette Museum 2008 Historic Motorama II.
I am a red 1987 Corvette, Callaway Edition. I have had 2 owners and neither one have really let me out to play, 8,000 miles. Recently, the Chevy dealer told my owner that my computer hasn't even been through the break-in mode, so maybe now he will get me past the 10,000 mile mark on this historic trip. I did see a sprinkle of rain once by mistake, but I was quickly dried off and sent to bed and covered up in my garage.
I am rare in the fact that that I have a B2K option. Actually I am car # 143 out of 186 ever built with that option. This option is for the Callaway twin turbo. I was delivered from the dealer with BBS wheels and a Greenwood package. I have all my papers (and documents of dealership shots).
My owner is Scott Martin. He was born with oil running through his veins instead of blood! He is a true motor head! As a collector of many 1955 Belaire Chevy's, he always wanted to own a corvette. In 2003, Scott sold a very successful business he had built in Colorado. After finalizing the sale of his company, he drove his wife down to the local John Elway dealership and purchased a new 2003 Vette, his first of the 7 Corvette's he now owns. He then began his quest to own a car from every series… Actually it started as a 3's thing, and since there was not an '83 made he justified to his wife that he could have me. Since that tradition was broken, he started justifying “Birthday” cars...and so on... His C1 is a 1953 drag racing remodeled Corvette and a 1960 original fuel injected, His C2's are a 1963 split window & 1967. His C3 is a 1973, 454 cid, T-Top, the C4 is the 1987 Callaway Edition, and to top it off is his C5 2003. Now looking for his C6!
My co-owner is Jayna Martin. She was driven to school in her parent's 1963 split window and had a passion to own that same model for herself. She is waiting on motorhead to finish the rebuild of the 1963 that she refers to as ‘her' baby!
Scott and Jayna reside in the Denver, Colorado area and are in their mid-40's. They have two children, Ryan – 22 and Ashley – 17. Can't wait to get “ON THE ROAD AGAIN!”
When GM celebrates the beginning of its next 100 years on September 16, 2008, 55 Corvettes will be on display outside its World Headquarters at Detroit’s Renaissance Center. The Corvettes are in fact the Historic Motorama II, a caravan from the National Corvette Museum (NCM) which is comprised of one example from each of the 55 years of Corvette production. The caravan will depart from the National Corvette Museum on September 10th with stops along the way. People attending the GMnext Day activities on September 16th will be able to view the Corvettes before and after the official program.
