1979 Firebird Formula Rides into Family History
In 1979, my parents Frederick William and Patricia Darcey Noles purchased a golden mist colored 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula with 36 miles on it. It had been a pace car at the Daytona Beach Racetrack. When Mom and Dad took possession of the car it had 63 miles on it because the chief mechanic for Powell Buick and Pontiac "just had to take it out on the back roads (of Plant City, Florida) to see if it would live up to its fame." It did!
Mom and Dad drove that car until December, 1992 when they turned the title over to my kid brother, Bill. His now ex-wife and he drove it until she forgot to put oil in it. Bill normally drove his truck since he was and still is in construction. Of course the engine burned. HOWEVER, things were not as bad as one would think- ONLY the top half of the engine was destroyed. The bottom half (with 400,000 miles- not kidding) remained untouched. It sat under trees for several years in Ohio. Now, some 17 years later, my brother and my oldest son Robert William "Billy" are working on trying to find parts for it to restore it to its illustrious glory. The paint has hardly faded.
Thanks to you and your company its one car that will (if parts are located) one day again be driven in our family. Thanks to you and your company the quality was still there- it’s making the 3rd generation of owner's dream come true.
