I've loved cars all my life, and in fact my enthusiasm for cars (and for Pontiacs in particular) is the sole reason I came to work for General Motors....my 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ.... It represents the end of an era in a way since 1977 was the last year of the "big" Grand Prix, Regal, Cutlass, and Monte Carlo before the "downsize" 1978 model year. 1977 was also the model year GM sold more Grand Prix's than any other model year before or since.
....when I was a kid, my parents bought a new '77 Grand Prix and I thought it was the coolest car I'd ever seen. I was so in love with the looks of it that I was overjoyed to receive from my parent's, a very tired, '76 Grand Prix (this was in 1984) as my first car. That car was replaced by a '77 Grand Prix in 1989, but that car was destroyed when someone ran a red light and hit it in 1993. But I always wanted another '77 and so I acquired ...an uplevel SJ model with just 29,000 miles on the odometer.
.... Before I had my current Grand Prix, I took my 1994 Firehawk car to some car shows near my hometown in Ohio (the Trans Am Nationals is held practically in my back yard) and met some great GM employees there. It was their enthusiasm for GM products that convinced me I should look into employment opportunities with GM.
GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs.
