Personal story and photograph submitted by owner Bob & Linda Salley - courtesy of the National Corvette Museum website - for participation in the National Corvette Museum 2008 Historic Motorama II.

I turned 16 and got my drivers license in the fall of 1968, just when the C3 was introduced. I worked at a local dairy bar with my girlfriend Linda, who later became my wife. The owner of the business bought a silver '68 T-Top and showed up periodically to check things out at work. I was mesmerized by this car and vowed to get one some day.

When I left for college the owners threw me a party and actually let me and Linda take it out for a spin. It drove a lot differently than my '63 VW Bug.

Fast forward to 1995 and I saw a Corvette & Chevy Trader in a gas station and bought it on a whim. I saw an ad for the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show in Springfield, Missouri and Linda and I decided to go check it out. We haven't missed a Bloomington show since and bought this '74 convertible at the show the very next year.

A year later we entered it in the Survivor judging and it passed all 4 categories. Two years later Lyle Chamberlain used it in the Silver Salute class as the demo.

Our '74 still has the original paint except for the bumpers. which had to be replaced a few years ago. It is a medium red, L82 four speed with air conditioning, a hard top, and saddle interior.

We bought a '99 light pewter coupe at Bloomington in 2006 and enjoy it as well. We are members of our local Glass PACK Corvette Club] in Western Kentucky, as well as Corvette Memphis. I travel with the Memphis group every year in a motorhome to Corvettes at Carlisle, camping out at the show.

We are looking forward to being a part of the Historic Motorama II and meeting lots of new friends and seeing some awsome Corvettes.

When GM celebrates the beginning of its next 100 years on September 16, 2008, 55 Corvettes will be on display outside its World Headquarters at Detroit’s Renaissance Center. The Corvettes are in fact the Historic Motorama II, a caravan from the National Corvette Museum (NCM) which is comprised of one example from each of the 55 years of Corvette production. The caravan will depart from the National Corvette Museum on September 10th with stops along the way. People attending the GMnext Day activities on September 16th will be able to view the Corvettes before and after the official program.
