Personal story and photograph submitted by owner James Youens - courtesy of the National Corvette Museum website - for participation in the National Corvette Museum 2008 Historic Motorama II.

My wife Barbara and I bought the 1973 Corvette in 2000. It was a total basket case and I spent the next 5 years slowly restoring the car. The only redeeming feature of the car, and what saved it from being a parts car, was the fact that it was a convertible and did have the original drive train. This project was definitely a resurrection and not a restoration. The car's name is File'.

The car was awarded the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) Duntov award in 2006. Currently it is used as a driver and I go on road tours with it when I have the time.

I have also restored a 1960 that received Blomington Gold in 1997 and the Duntov award in 1998. Currently I am working on a 1961 very original car. I have been a member of the NCRS for 13 years and judge in National and Regional events. I am also a past Chairman of the Louisiana Chapter of the NCRS and a founding member.

I have been a member of the National Corvette Museum (NCM) since 2000. I was surprised to be honored with having my 1973 chosen for the Historic Motorama II celebrating the 100th Anniversary of GM. I look forward to meeting all of the other drivers and guests on the tour.

When GM celebrates the beginning of its next 100 years on September 16, 2008, 55 Corvettes will be on display outside its World Headquarters at Detroit’s Renaissance Center. The Corvettes are in fact the Historic Motorama II, a caravan from the National Corvette Museum (NCM) which is comprised of one example from each of the 55 years of Corvette production. The caravan will depart from the National Corvette Museum on September 10th with stops along the way. People attending the GMnext Day activities on September 16th will be able to view the Corvettes before and after the official program.
