I will start my story off about my passion for the Chevy 396. It started back in 1965 1/2 when Chevy started putting the 396 in their cars. I liked the looks of the engine the first time I saw it. Big and burly looking.
The 396 I liked the best was the 375 hp. It is the best of all worlds when it comes to power. In 1967 I went to buy a Chevelle 396 375 hp. The salesman told me I would have to order it and wait as they were not out yet. I didn't want to wait so I opted for a 396 350 hp 4 speed. I liked the car very much but I was never satisfied. I had a chance about ten years ago to buy this 1969 Nova SS 396 375 hp 4 speed numbers matching so I bought it. I have done some minor work and paint. And also we have traced the car back to the original owner that bought it brand new off the showroom floor at Applegate Chevy in Flint, Michigan....
GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs. One of these vehicles will be crowned “top cruiser” based on a text voting campaign.
