1968 Pontiac Banshee II Concept
Written by Bill Bowman
The 1968 Pontiac Banshee II (a.k.a. Firebird of Tomorrow) had aerodynamic fiberglass skins over stock Firebird inner panels and a near stock black interior. Stretching 15-inches longer than a production Firebird, the Tangerine Pearl Frost speedster looked long, low and mean.
In 1969, the Banshee II was updated with white paint and a graphics treatment including a chicken decal on the nose. It was then re-christened the Firebird Fiero.
The Banshee II / Firebird Fiero show car had an obvious racing influence with its flush wheel covers, deep louvered hood, cut down glass, brake cooling vents, minimal ground clearance, and separate headrests for passenger and driver. It was powered with a 400 C.I.D. V8 engine.
