1966 Buick Special
Personal story and photograph submitted by owner Stan Fowler
for participation in the the 2008 GM Century Cruise
My candidate is an unrestored 1966 Buick Special convertible with 45,000 original miles. This car was bought new by my parents when I took one of their cars to college. I bought it from them in 1989, and have had it ever since.
My father was always a GM man (Buick and Olds), and it must have rubbed off, as I started at Buick in 1968 and retired from GM 34 years later! You'll notice a few recent changes to modernize it - lowering, disc brakes, and 17" wheels - but the body and interior are all original. I have several collector cars, but this one is a "keeper"
GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs. One of these vehicles will be crowned “top cruiser” based on a text voting campaign.
