1961 Chevrolet Impala
Personal story and photograph submitted by owner Sidney Jackson
for participation in the the 2008 GM Century Cruise
I have owned my 1961 Impala convertible for 32 year's. My vehicle is an unrestored car. My purchase of this convertible was to replace the exact original vehicle my father drove 100,000 miles before giving me the '61 for my first car.
I have enjoyed the quality time spent with my family over the last 32 year's driving in the car. We have enjoyed many car shows and family event's in my '61.
I was invited to the first GM Tech Center employee car show 19 years ago. I have entered my '61 chevy in this GM employee car show every year since.
GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs. One of these vehicles will be crowned “top cruiser” based on a text voting campaign.
