I purchased my '58 Corvette in 1981. I originally purchased her as a ‘driver' since I had a '59 that was ‘too nice' to drive. After getting her home and checking all of the numbers and options (such as: automatic transmission, dual quads, power windows, power soft top, as well as the auxiliary hardtop), I realized this was my real keeper. At that point I decided to sell my '59 and began work on the 58.
After completing a body on restoration she took an NCRS Top Flight and even more satisfying to me was the fact she was awarded the ‘ladies choice' award at the same meet. After that she has been on the road except for her stint in the National Corvette Museum. You might have seen her in the Mobil station!
That was 31 years ago, the restoration was completed and my wife and I thoroughly enjoy the car.
When GM celebrates the beginning of its next 100 years on September 16, 2008, 55 Corvettes will be on display outside its World Headquarters at Detroit’s Renaissance Center. The Corvettes are in fact the Historic Motorama II, a caravan from the National Corvette Museum (NCM) which is comprised of one example from each of the 55 years of Corvette production. The caravan will depart from the National Corvette Museum on September 10th with stops along the way. People attending the GMnext Day activities on September 16th will be able to view the Corvettes before and after the official program.
