1958 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special

This vehicle was my great uncle's last car that I have now owned for forty-six (46) years.
For two years beginning in the summer of 1972, I originally drove it [1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special] to the Tech Center when I began working at Engineering Staff. With the exception of painting it the original color back in 1975, it is a completely "unrestored" vehicle. It is unquestionably a testament to the quality of materials and engineering used by General Motors some fifty years ago.
This vehicle has graced the likes of the former GM Building's East and West Showrooms, the lobby of the Fisher Building, Cobo Hall, the lobby of the former Cadillac Building at the Tech Center, the front page of the Detroit Free Press on July 19, 2007 and the Woodward "Dream Cruise" every year. While I may have looked foolish driving this car in high school, I have the "last laugh" when I drive it back to my reunions in the St. Louis suburbs. On October 3rd this year, I will have the distinct honor of chauffeuring the 1958 Class President of a local high school to his fiftieth reunion...
GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs. One of these vehicles will be crowned “top cruiser” based on a text voting campaign.
