1958, the Golden Milestone
From October of 1957 until its actual birth date on September 16, 1958, General Motors celebrated its 50th year of existence in grand fashion. A full page newspaper ad in October 1957 announced the beginning of this celebration and over the course of the next year, it included a two-hour television program seen by an estimated 60 million viewers, a number of plant open houses, many Salute to GM community events, the Golden Milestone employee letter writing campaign and the grand 50th anniversary celebration thrown in GM's birthplace, Flint, Michigan.
General Motors published a pamphlet to commemorate the occasion. This pamphlet depicted some of the highlights of the Golden Milestone celebration.
