1957 Buick Century

My car is a 1957 Buick Century Riviera, 4-door, Model 63. 26,589 were produced. About 54 are known to still exist according to Automotive Information Clearinghouse as of September 2, 2004.
The car is a fully restored original and is driven every where it goes. It is not a trailer queen but it has received many awards. It earned a Silver Award at the Buick National Meet in Rochester, Minnesota in 2006, missing Gold by only two points.
1957 was a very great year in my life. That was the year I graduated from General Motors Institute (GMI). That same year the Mackinac Bridge was completed; a project I followed with interest as a young engineer in the making, and I became engaged to be married. We are now in our 48th year together and my wife even has a poodle skirt to go with the car!
We had traveled to Holland, Michigan in 1996 to attend a Regional Meet of The Buick Club of America and hoped to find a 1938 Century for sale. There was one there all right but it was priced way beyond what I could afford. My wife was doing some looking on her own. She spotted a very tired looking, but otherwise complete 1957 Buick Century. I found a Century that was made in the same year we got engaged. The rest is documented history of a labor of love in a most enjoyed hobby.
GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs. One of these vehicles will be crowned “top cruiser” based on a text voting campaign.
