Personal story and photograph submitted by owner Bob Treppa
for participation in the the 2008 GM Century Cruise

The 1940 is a street rod that I purchased from a friend and brought it home in not less than 10,000 pieces. The only part of the car that was finished was the driveline; every other component, wire, knob, bolt and nut was to be installed. I never heard the engine run at the time of purchase. Six months almost to the day it arrived in my garage the wiring harnesses were installed, the after market fuel injection system was corrected and the car was started for the first time in 3 years. I turned the engine over by hand for a couple weeks prior to starting it to be careful not to break any stuck piston rings.

The car is now complete, it is painted 2005 Trailblazer Metallic Dark Charcoal and Metallic Sandstone, with a custom five color graphic on the sides that is all pearl paints, as well as, a pearl blue over lay 1 ½ inches wide at the jagged two tone break line. The leather interior front bucket 6 way power seats are from a 2003 Envoy, and the rear leather seats are from the middle seating position of a 2006 Pontiac Montana. The car is powered by a Chevrolet 350 small block engine, 350 THM, and a Nova axle. It has a Mustang front suspension with rack and pinion power steering. The vehicle has a 70 Camaro tilt steering column power windows, power seats (both front buckets), power steering, power disc/drum brakes, split Corvette style Master Cylinder, Stereo Radio, CD Player, Tinted windows all around, power doors, power trunk and power windows. Estimated value $22,000.

GM’s Century Cruise pays tribute to GM’s past and the passion owners have for their vehicles. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 this vehicle and more than 100 other classic GM vehicles will cruise from the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center up Woodward Avenue to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and the surrounding suburbs. One of these vehicles will be crowned “top cruiser” based on a text voting campaign.
