1916, Sloan Joins General Motors

GM made an offer to buy a supplier called Hyatt Roller Bearing, run by an up-and-coming executive named Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., and offered Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. the job of president of a new automotive components unit called United Motors. Fearing that Hyatt’s major customer, Ford Motor, would soon take its roller bearing business in-house, Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. eagerly accepted the offer.
