After having nearly closed a deal to bring Ford Motor Company into General Motors in 1908, Billy Durant made one last offer for Ford Motor in 1909, only to see it fail because Henry Ford insisted on cash payment and most banks viewed Durant’s young empire as already over-extended and would not loan the money he needed for the deal.
