Infatuated with a primitive bicycle that he first saw in England, Adam Opel began building bicycles as well as sewing machines in Germany in 1886. Promoting its cycles through racing, the Opel brand was soon one of the most popular bicycle brands in the world. Shown in the photo are Adam Opel’s five sons, who eventually took over the business.
